Prepare a fresh, restaurant-quality spicy ahi tuna tartare quickly. Serve this raw seafood appetizer with crisp wonton chips and creamy avocado.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sushi-grade ahi tuna, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to your heat preference)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 small scallion, thinly sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced
  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the wonton chips: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a small pan over medium-high heat. Fry wonton wrappers in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 30 seconds per side. Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the diced ahi tuna, soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds. Gently mix until the tuna is evenly coated.
  3. Gently fold in the sliced scallions. Do not overmix.
  4. To assemble, place a small ring mold on each serving plate. Layer a small amount of diced avocado at the bottom, pressing lightly.
  5. Spoon the spicy tuna mixture into the mold on top of the avocado layer. Gently press down.
  6. Carefully remove the mold. Repeat for all servings.
  7. Serve immediately with the crispy wonton chips on the side for scooping.

Notes

  • Use only the freshest, sushi-grade tuna for this raw preparation.
  • For a Nobu-style presentation, you can drizzle a few drops of chili oil around the plate before placing the tartare.
  • If you do not have wonton wrappers, you can serve this tartare over cucumber slices for a lower-carb option.
