Ingredients
Scale
1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for filling)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
1 large egg yolk (for filling)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, diced (for topping)
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for glaze)
1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (for glaze)
Instructions
Activate the yeast: Dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar in the warm milk. Let stand 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Mix the dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, melted butter, and egg. Add the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
Prepare the filling: While the dough rises, beat the 1/2 cup softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Roll out the dough: Punch down the risen dough. Roll it into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
Assemble: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough. Spoon the strawberry jam over the cream cheese layer and gently swirl with a knife.
Shape: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal rolls.
Second Rise: Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Make the glaze: While rolls cool slightly, beat the remaining 1/2 cup cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and pourable.
Finish: Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm rolls. Sprinkle with diced fresh strawberries before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use room temperature ingredients when mixing the dough.
If your jam is very thick, warm it slightly before spreading it on the dough.
You can use frozen, thawed strawberries for the filling if fresh are unavailable.
