Ingredients
Scale
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, lime juice, and black pepper in a medium bowl. Whisk until the sugar dissolves.
Place your tuna steaks in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
Pour the marinade over the tuna, ensuring both sides are coated.
Marinate the tuna for a maximum of 30 minutes. For tuna, do not marinate longer than 30 minutes to prevent the texture from changing.
Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
Notes
This marinade works well for searing tuna steaks to medium-rare.
If you plan to grill, wipe off excess marinade before placing the fish on the grates to prevent flare-ups.
For an Asian tuna steak marinade with a little heat, add 1/2 teaspoon of sriracha to the mixture.
