Follow these steps to prepare moist, flaky salmon baked with a rich garlic butter base and topped with a bright lemon herb sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6 oz) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until combined. This is your garlic butter base.
  3. Place the salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Spread an even layer of the garlic butter mixture over the top surface of each fillet.
  4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time depends on the thickness of your fillets.
  5. While the salmon bakes, prepare the sauce. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the fresh lemon juice, chopped parsley, chopped dill, and lemon zest.
  6. Once the salmon is removed from the oven, spoon the lemon herb sauce evenly over the warm fillets before serving.

Notes

  • For pan-seared salmon, cook the fillets skin-side down in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat for 4 minutes, then flip, top with garlic butter, and finish in the oven for 6-8 minutes.
  • You can substitute dried herbs for fresh herbs in the sauce, using 1/3 the amount specified for fresh herbs.
  • Asparagus or roasted potatoes pair well as side dishes.
