Ingredients
Scale
1 lb sushi-grade ahi tuna, finely diced
1/4 cup mayonnaise (Japanese preferred)
2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1/2 teaspoon lime juice
1 ripe avocado, mashed smooth
1 teaspoon lime juice (for avocado)
Pinch of salt (for avocado)
Wonton wrappers or cucumber slices (for serving)
Black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the tuna: Place the diced tuna in a chilled bowl.
Make the spicy sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sriracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon lime juice.
Combine: Gently fold the spicy sauce into the diced tuna until just coated. Do not overmix. Cover and chill for 10 minutes.
Prepare the avocado cream: In a separate bowl, mix the mashed avocado with 1 teaspoon lime juice and a pinch of salt until smooth.
Prepare serving base: If using wonton wrappers, bake or fry them until crisp according to package directions. If using cucumber, slice into 1/4-inch rounds.
Assemble the napoleon: Place one wonton crisp or cucumber slice on a plate. Place a ring mold on top. Layer a spoonful of avocado cream, pressing lightly. Top with a layer of the spicy tuna mixture. Repeat the layers once more if desired.
Remove the ring mold carefully. Garnish the top with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use only the freshest, highest quality, sushi-grade tuna for this recipe.
For a cleaner presentation, chill your ring mold before assembling the tartare.
You can substitute the wonton crisps with toasted baguette slices or sturdy crackers.
