Make a quick, tangy, and creamy tartar sauce from scratch in under 10 minutes to serve with your favorite fried seafood.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup dill pickle relish, drained
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon capers, drained and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the mayonnaise in a medium bowl.
  2. Add the drained pickle relish, lemon juice, chopped capers, Dijon mustard, fresh dill, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. Stir all ingredients together until they are completely combined and the sauce is smooth.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more lemon juice for tang or more relish for texture.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend before serving.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, reduce the amount of lemon juice slightly.
  • If you do not have fresh dill, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of dried dill weed.
  • This sauce tastes best when made ahead of time; it keeps well in the refrigerator for up to one week.
