Make this simple, one-pan meal featuring ground beef, pasta, and melted mozzarella cheese. It is a quick, comforting dinner requiring minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni or small pasta shape
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes (with their juice) and the beef broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Add the uncooked pasta to the skillet. Stir well to submerge the pasta.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  8. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the pasta mixture. Cover the skillet again for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt completely.
  9. Serve directly from the skillet.

Notes

  • You can substitute the elbow macaroni with small shells or rotini pasta. Adjust the simmering time slightly based on the pasta shape you select.
  • For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano with the Italian seasoning.
  • If the mixture seems too thick before adding the cream, add a splash more broth or water.
