Ingredients
Scale
1 whole chicken (about 3-4 lbs)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
Instructions
Remove the whole chicken from its packaging. Take out any giblets or neck from the cavity. Pat the entire chicken very dry, inside and out, using paper towels. This step is key for crispy skin.
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary to create your seasoning rub.
Rub the olive oil all over the exterior of the chicken. Then, generously sprinkle and rub the seasoning mix over the skin. Make sure to coat the entire surface.
Place the seasoned whole chicken breast-side up into the air fryer basket. If your air fryer is small, you may need to tie the legs together with kitchen twine to help it fit better.
Set your air fryer temperature to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).
Cook the chicken for 45 to 60 minutes. The cooking time depends on the size of your chicken.
Halfway through the cooking time (around 25 minutes), carefully pull out the basket and brush any accumulated juices over the top of the chicken for extra moisture. Return the basket to the air fryer.
Check the internal temperature using a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, avoiding the bone. The chicken is done when it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the air fryer. Let it rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes before carving. This resting period keeps the meat juicy.
Notes
For the best rotisserie style results, use a chicken that fits comfortably in your air fryer basket without touching the sides.
If the skin is browning too quickly before the inside is done, lightly tent the chicken with foil for the remainder of the cooking time.
You can stuff the cavity with aromatics like half a lemon and a few cloves of garlic for added flavor while cooking.
