Ingredients
Scale
2 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for preventing browning)
Instructions
Wash and core the apples. Slice the apples as thinly as possible, aiming for 1/16 inch thickness. A mandoline slicer works best for uniform thinness.
If using, lightly toss the apple slices in lemon juice and pat them dry with a paper towel. This helps them crisp up.
In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
Place the dry apple slices in a large bowl. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples and toss gently until all slices are evenly coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius).
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overlap them; work in batches if necessary to maintain airflow.
Air fry for 12 to 18 minutes. At the halfway point (around 8 minutes), carefully flip the chips.
Check the chips frequently after 12 minutes. They are done when they feel dry and are slightly browned at the edges. If they are still soft, continue cooking in 2-minute intervals.
Remove the chips from the air fryer and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up further as they cool.
Notes
For best results and maximum crispness, ensure the apple slices are very thin and dry before seasoning.
If you prefer a different sweetener, you can substitute the granulated sugar with coconut sugar or a sugar substitute.
If your chips stick, lightly spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray before adding the apples, though this is usually not needed if the apples are dry.
